Supply Drop

Mom and Dad came by for a quick visit and I have to say that it was really nice to see them. It's kind of confusing living here with nobody I know from Seattle around, it makes everything seem like two separate worlds. Parents came with two boxes filled to the brim with oodles of nifty things such as candy, snack food, just-add-water food items, and of course vitamins and things to maintain my well-being. They also brought a present from my sister along with them:To boldly go where no model Enterprise has gone before
They also brought a really cool gift from my grandmother, which I promptly broke...I had attempted to hang it on some of the little command hook things I had brought with me, and about 10 minutes after my parents left the hook gave out. I'm just happy that the artwork is still safe. I decided to use one of the more heavy duty hooks, which has been working really well. Going to get the glass fixed next time I head home/parents come here. Also note that we are now 2 for 2, every time my parents leave something breaks (back in September just after my family walked out of my dorm the light gave out).

After taking care of some serious business paperworky things Dad decided to take us to the top of beautiful Mount Douglas. At the peak of the mountain is a lookout point where you can just sit and enjoy an extremely beautiful view. It was a wee bit cloudy, but I think you will enjoy the pictures nonetheless.

I should eat more

I was at dinner with a few people and they started discussing how their food points were under where they needed to be, so they were having to cut down on food. Upon asking how they knew where they should be I found out that there is a chart over by the water spigot thing. I walked over and looked at the Medium meal plan section of the chart and it said that I should have somewhere around 700 points on my card (I don't remember the exact number). I got out my receipt from my meal and saw that I have 930 points left... I started thinking about it, and I realized that I really haven't been going to go eat very often. Mostly I just have dinner, and since I hardly ever get a drink with dinner that only ends up being about 3 dollars per day. I tend to try to get as much sleep as I can, which results in me not having breakfast. I rode a bus!

This post may seem unnecessary and frivolous to you, but this is a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT for me. For years and years I have been driven everywhere by someone, I have never tried riding the bus, and driving cars scares me. BUT NOW, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER: I rode a bus down to the Hillside Shopping Centre (auto correct is whining about my use of "Centre," I wonder if there is a Canadian auto correct setting) to get some id pictures taken. Not only did I ride the bus, but I was entirely alone and without help. I have to say that the bus system is kinda fun actually. the BC Transit website is ridiculously helpful. So after finding out where I needed to go I walked to the bus transition center thingy, and the different bus ports had a big sign that had the bus numbers on them, and a little map of where they were going. "We aren't at Aviation anymore"

Title was my response to seeing some of the local "Wildlife": a girl with shredded clothing (including jeans) and an obscenely fuzzy shoulder bag. I have finally fled the country, dad and I left on the 31st at one in the morning (happy birthday!) and arrived at 9. That day was boring though, we just took care of some logistics (like getting a debit card), and had a glass of milk at the local tavern. Where the fun begins is the next day, September 1st. This was the day of the "International Student Welcome" (I made sure not to inform anyone that since I am Canadian citizen they were all paying more than me). I expected this orientation to be more of a "cultural assimilation" presentation, but they hardly told us anything about Canadian culture.
