November 23rd 1963, a show titled "Doctor Who" aired its first episode: "An Unearthly Child." In the episode some teachers are concerned for a young girl named "Susan Foreman," who was brilliantly intelligent, but lacked knowledge in very commonly known information. In attempting to discover more about her they follow Susan into a large blue police box, that turns out to be bigger on the inside, home to Susan and her grandfather who would only go by "The Doctor." To avoid letting these teachers run and give away what they discovered The Doctor flipped a switch teleporting the police box and everyone inside to the stone age.
For the past 47 years Doctor Who has been coming out with new episodes of The Doctor and his companions going on fantastic adventures through time and space, and a community of people on the internet said "Why isn't there a doctor who day?!"
It's a good question really, if Star Wars has a generally accepted holiday why can't Doctor Who? So what if it hasn't transcended cool yet, we want a holiday! This is why November 23rd has been deemed "Doctor Who Day" in recognition of the anniversary of the first ever episode of Doctor Who.
You know what this means my fellow Whovians, it's time to get out those bow ties and multi-coloured scarves, pin some celery to your lapel and turn on some Doctor Who. If you haven't watched Doctor Who before, I suggest you take the opportunity of Doctor Who day to turn on an episode and be absolutely blown away by the spectacle that it is.
I really like the music in the youtube video I told you to click, so I am now going to throw pictures around so that you can sit here and listen to it. Whenever the Doctor is dying (or an actor decides he is quite finished playing him) he has the power to regenerate his body to become a new doctor. Same knowledge, different personality. These pictures are the eleven doctors (in order!)
